Kristin Hannah   KRISTIN HANNAH’s emotionally compelling novels
about women and their relationships are set in the
Northwest. True Colors, a story about sisterhood,
jealousy, and betrayal, landed on the 2008 New York
Times best-seller list at Number Five. Firefly Lane, a
poignant story of friendship, was on the best-seller list
in 2009 for eight weeks. Her latest, Winter Garden, is
about the mother/daughter bond and two estranged
sisters’ search into their cold, disapproving mother’s
past in war-torn Leningrad. www.kristinhannah.com

Rhys Bowen   RHYS BOWEN writes mysteries that win readers
and awards. Her three series feature Constable Evan
Evans in World War II Wales, Irish immigrant and
private detective Molly Murphy in early 1900s New
York, and Lady Georgiana in 1930s England. Among
her honors are Edgar, Agatha, Macavity, and Dilys
awards, and an Arty for best cover. Booklist calls her

Sandra Tsiing-Loh   SANDRA TSING LOH, a performer on stage in sold-out
solo shows and on NPR speaking for Cal Tech, is an
outside-the-box thinker and essayist. These titles reflect
their hilarious content: Depth Takes a Holiday and If You
Lived Here, You’d Be Home By Now.
Her latest, Mother
on Fire, satirizes the year she “exploded in flames” and
into her 40’s as a M.O.S.C (Mother Of Small Children) to
become, as described by the L. A. Times, “the conscience of public schools.” www.sandratsingloh.com

Helaine Becker   HELAINE BECKER, is an entertaining performer and author of zany best-selling books for children. She is a two-time winner of Canada’s Silver Birch Award — for Boredom Blasters and Secret Agent Y.O.U. — and her chapter book series Looney Bay All-Stars has sold over 170,000 copies. While Mother Goose Uncracked entertains kids happily ever after, her other engaging books, alive with color and her mischievous sense of humor, are “How-to’s” about being psychic, making magic, doing comedy, and becoming spies. www.helainebecker.com

Wendy Hornsby   WENDY HORNSBY’s sixth Maggie MacGowan mystery, In the Guise of Mercy, finds Maggie coping with the death of her LAPD detective husband. She accepts his dying challenge to solve the case of a missing boy, a mystery which haunted him for a decade. Hornsby’s short stories and seven previous mystery novels earned her an Edgar award, an Anthony nomination, le Grand Prix de Litterature Policiere, as well as numerous other prestigious awards. www.wendyhornsby.com

Tania James   TANIA JAMES sets her debut novel, Atlas of Unknowns,
in the opposing worlds of India and New York. Two
sisters explore family, marriage, post-9/11 immigration,
self-discovery, and then test the limits of their sisterly
bond when one usurps the accomplishments of the other.
As Chitra Banarjee Divakaruni (2008 Festival author) said,
“James paints the dual worlds of the novel with masterful
care, choosing beautiful, shocking details and peopling
them with characters we will remember long after closing
the book.” www.taniajames.com

Rhoda Janzen   RHODA JANZEN has written an uproariously funny
memoir, Mennonite in a Little Black Dress, reminiscent of
Annie Lamott and Nora Ephron. After her husband leaves
her for a man he met on Gay.com, she returns home to her conservative religious community. She finds endless
humor in the details of her childhood, and becomes
reacquainted with borscht, public prayer, and her
matchmaker mother. Janzen holds a Ph.D. from UCLA
and was its poet laureate in 1994 and 1997.

Julie Marie Myatt   JULIE MARIE MYATT is one of theater's provocative new voices with more than a dozen plays to her credit.
